By the time 8 o’clock rolls around I’m still standing in the middle of the closet, arms crossed and trying to figure out what to wear. I sigh, sitting on the couch in the middle of the room and closing my eyes. Maybe I should have called Jaida for this. The dresses and all the other clothes are amazing, but I just don’t know what to wear to somewhere like this. I’m accustomed to the jeans and tops of the human world, not fancy skirts and dresses. I mean, I’d much rather be wearing these clothes but that doesn’t mean I know how to wear them.

Marina walks in, snapping me out of my thoughts. She’s wearing a short, deep blue, almost black dress. Holographic glitter is embedded within the threads, making her look even more magical than she usually does. The back of the dress is open, the fabric bunched up beautifully at the bottom of her spine. My jaw drops in disbelief, looking up at her, “How did you do that?”

A sharp laugh rings out and she shakes her head, “This is why I came almost an hour early, Lil. I knew damn well you were gonna be sitting here, trying to figure out what to wear for hours.” She turns away from me and to my closet instead, eyes scanning the shorter dresses.

I sit and watch as her eyes catch on a blood red dress and she smirks, a mischievous, Flynn-like smirk. Even on the hanger, I can see that the dress is quite short. The silky material flows and glimmers almost like blood in the bright lights of my closet. She reaches for it and holds it up, eyeing it smugly as I glare daggers at her.

“That’s like, realllly short…” I trail off, watching her eyes sparkle with excitement.

“Come on Lil! It’ll be fun and Flynn’s gonna like this dress!”

Snorting a laugh, I reach out and touch the fabric. It slides through my fingers seamlessly and my heart beats faster at the thought of Flynn, “Why do you think I can what Flynn likes?” I don’t meet her eyes as I say it, instead examining the dress.

She shakes her head in disbelief, “God, you both are so stubborn! You may have just met but if you’re mates it’s kind of normal to feel like this. You know, love at first sight, true love, all that fun stuff?”

“We might not even be mates,” I give her a look and she hides a smile.

“We’ll see!” She says in a sing-sonny voice before whisking me away to get ready.
